This luxury home site offers the builder a large, level building pad. The pad consists mostly of sandstone bedrock. The site has compaction test results of 95% to 98%. This will assure the owners an extremely sound foundation on which to build their dream home. The downslope from the building pad is rich with luscious gardens for a feeling of private tranquility.

To separate the house from the uphill slope, and to create access for people, a retaining wall was built about 4 feet from the location of the west wall of the future house. The retaining wall will not be connected to the house. The hill is composed of solid sandstone, which is likely to perform well for the duration.

The retaining wall is sloped into the hill (and away from the house) at a 9 degree angle and anchored to the hill with galvanized steel tiebacks drilled deep into the hill at slight downward angles. The angling of the wall provides a more comfortable walkway as well as uses gravity to aid in retaining the hill.
